Buying For Baby Where Should You Start?

Where to Start? Shopping for a new baby can be overwhelming?

Your parents, friends, sisters, aunts, and even the checkout lady at the supermarket has endless advice to share with you. The first thing that you need to do is slow down, grab a pad of paper and a pen and do some planning. You will find yourself creating a nursery that is warm, inviting, functional and most importantly safe.

Create A Realistic Budget
Have a budget for furniture, linens and decor. Also consider that your household expenses can and will increase with baby’s arrival and your income may decrease if one or both parents change work schedules or you decide to stay at home with baby.

Think Long Term
Imagine how your nursery’s color scheme and furniture, linens and wall colors work together. Remember, wall colors and linens will change as your child grows, but most furniture will grow with your child. Try to purchase the best quality furniture your budget will allow. Purchase a crib that will convert to a toddler bed and later a full size bed. Make sure that the crib has a good quality, firm mattress. You will also need a changing table or dresser, and a glider with a footstool.

Make sure that you pay attention to the lighting of the room. Darkening shades help control the bright sun during naptime and nightlights help so you don’t bump into things in the middle of the night. So slow down and enjoy mixing you and your partners personality and tastes into planning baby’s own special space.
